Fall 2024 // Visual Identity + UI/UX

Conscious Care is an app prototype designed for caretakers of Alzheimer’s patients who need help understanding the complicated disease and carrying such an emotional burden. It has features such as reminders for doctors’ appointments and activities, a medical profile where the user can keep track of medications, symptoms, or past health concerns, a log for processing emotions or experiences for the caretaker, and a page dedicated to education and resources filtered by the stage of the disease the patient is in.

Research

When thinking about the communities that I “belong” to or the connections I have through family and friends, I thought about my experiences caring for seniors, specifically what my family has been through in the past decade when caring for my grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s. Even though my grandparents are no longer with us, our experiences as a family giving care to someone with Alzheimer’s has made a significant impact on me, revealing a need for resources that help caregivers with their emotional burdens.

After conducting the interview and through my personal experiences, the following key areas were identified as caregiver’s needs.

I then turned to visual research by moodboarding, looking at other UI references, and planning the flow of the interface. I knew that I wanted the colors to be cool and calming with varying shades of purple since it is known as the color for the Alzheimer’s movement and the official color of the Alzheimer’s Association. I also wanted to use soft gradients and organic shapes to have the most soothing visual appearance for the user.
